Slovenia & Italy: From Jesenice to Lake Faak

Arguably one of the most beautiful E-Bike day tours in all of Europe. Three countries, with an astounding cultural and culinary diversity. All on bike paths far from any other traffic, with the most beautiful scenary:

The first leg follows the river Save in the valley between Karawanks and Triglav National Park, from Slovenia into Italy. Then you cross the border to Austria in the valley between Karawanks and Julian Alps.

This is actually the most beautiful section of the multi-day tour “Karawanks circle”. You can cycle this section in one day, but taking the train from Faak am See to Jesenice or vice versa. The train takes only between 23 and 27 minutes, as it crosses the Karawanks in a tunnel.

Please note, that depending on the season the train schedule changes as follows:

OFF SEASON (1st of June till 5th of July 2024)

You can take the train S5 from Faak am See at 8:43, but only on Saturdays and Sundays!
There is a D-Zug from Faak am See to Jesenice daily at 9:07.

Alternative options:

1. There is a daily train departing from Jesenice at 4:31 pm (D210), in order to get back to Faak am See in the afternoon.

2. On the weekends from June onwards, there is another train departing from Jesenice already at 4pm (it is called S5).

–> For both alternative options start your cycle trip from Faak early enough, and plan some buffer in order to be able to catch one of the two trains in Jesenice.
